Instead of one big monthly draw we have decided to do 4 smaller weekly draws. We look at it this way…we thought by making our clients wait a month to find out if they won FREE Massage Therapy we were adding undue stress to their lives. Although this is a great business tactic for painPRO, since we know stress can be a catalyst for pain, we thought a weekly draw for a FREE 45 minute massage therapy session was a better idea. So beginning Monday August 27th 2012, we will be drawing a name every Monday and awarding a FREE 45 minute massage therapy session that can be redeemed at any of our clinics, with any of our RMT’s, and with no redemption restrictions.

So the same rules apply:

1) When you receive a massage you get a ballot into the draw.

2) If you refer someone who books and pays for a massage you will get 2 ballots.

3) All massages from Monday to Sunday each week are eligible for a ballot entry, regardless of massage length, and the ballot box will be emptied each Monday.

Once again just our way of making life a little easier for more people.

In a previous article, What is the Lymph System? I discussed how the lymph system works and why it is so important.

We all know that we need to give our immune systems the best chance that we can of fighting off the flu and cold bugs that get passed around at the speed of light. A cold or the flu are miserable at the best of times, but they seem even worse in spring or summer when everyone else is having fun!

The lymph system plays a major role in regulating and maintaining the immune system. You can thus bolster your immune system through a bit of lymph massage.

Your lymph system carries white blood cells and antigen-presenting cells through your body and to the lymph nodes in your neck, chest, armpits, groin and pelvis area. In general, the more white blood cells you have the better your body is able to fight infections. This means that if you can find a way to make your body improve its production of white blood cells then you are most likely not going to get ill. Now that sounds like a brilliant idea!

That is what lymph massage does. It stimulates your lymph system. This means that your body will produce the white blood cells that it needs to fight off things like flu and colds and it pretty much bolsters your entire immune system.

A lymph massage is essentially a gentle waking up and preparing of the body’s immune system. It does not take much to stimulate the lymph system as the lymph vessels are just below your skin. This means that a lymph massage has to be gentle and slow and it needs to mimic the natural pulse of the lymph system. The movement will be in the direction of the natural flow of the lymph and encourages the system to drain the fluid and waste more efficiently.

The main benefits of this kind of massage are as follows:

A lymph massage will stimulate your lymph system in terms of its immune functions. It will stimulate the production of white blood cells and will speed up the flow of the lymph fluid itself so that any antigen-presenting cells that are present are carried to the lymph nodes. This means that your body will be better prepared to fight off any germs that invade your system.

A lymph massage will also stimulate the flow of the lymph fluid. This means that your body will rid itself of the waste that has accumulated in the system. This may cause you to feel a bit ill, but it depends on how much waste was in your system at the time. A lymphatic massage is a great addition to a detoxification program because it flushes out all the metabolic wastes including lactic acid and uric acid from your hard working muscles.

Both Swedish massages and Deep Tissue Massage include lymph system drainage techniques. Just make sure that you drink plenty of water afterwards to provide your body with the fluid it needs to fully cleanse itself of the toxins that will be released along with the white blood cells.

This form of massage can really do your body a lot of good. It will limber up sore muscles and help sooth chronic pain.

Book a few sessions for yourself today and stay healthy year round!

The body has four major systems. The blood circulatory system, the nervous system, the digestive system and the lymph system. Each one is vital to our survival and each one performs different functions. Let us take a look at the lymph system.

The lymph system is the system in your body that recycles of most of your body’s cellular waste. It is made up of a network of vessels that are filled with lymph, a clear fluid that is produced by the absorption of blood plasma.

All of the vessels in the lymph system are selectively permeable. This means that they allow certain substances in your body in and keep others out whilst also keeping certain substances in. the substance that the lymph system mostly processes is blood plasma. The plasma is what carries the nutrients to the cells. Once the cells have finished with the plasma it has to get back to the heart. The blood vessels can manage to deal with around seventeen of the approximately twenty liters that the body goes through in a single day. It is up to the lymph system to deal with the other three liters. This is done through the collection of interstitial fluid, the fluid between the cells that used to be blood plasma, and the depositing of this fluid into the subclavian veins,

The lymph system is also a part of your immune system. It transports antigen-presenting cells. These are the cells that will notify the body of the presence of an infection and elicit an immune response. The lymph system is also there to transport the white blood cells from the lymph nodes into the bones. The lymph nodes are where the majority of the disease fighting occurs. There are lymph nodes located in the chest, neck, pelvis, armpit and groin areas. In layman’s terms, they are often referred to as “glands” and it is the swelling of these “glands” that will indicate a severe infection and immune response.

The lymph system also aids in the digestive process by transporting fatty acids and fats out of the digestive system. These are transported back into the blood stream via the thoracic duct all the way up to the subclavian veins.

As you can see by now, the lymph system is an integral part in the regulation of your body’s various fluids and your body’s immune system. The lymph system carries cells and fluids all over the body at quite a speed. This is why cancer of the lymphatic system is often deadly. It is able to spread so quickly that it is seldom caught in time to stop the spreading of the disease.

It is because of this that it is so important to make sure that you do everything you can to keep your lymph system healthy and functioning correctly. Failure to do so can be potentially fatal. So be sure that you take really good care of your entire body, the lymph system included. You will stay healthier and feel a lot better if you manage to do this.

If you take part in any physical sport, you will likely injure yourself at some point. If you’ve already been injured, you know how long it can take to heal.

There is a way to help your body recover from major injuries faster. Massage therapy.

Let us take a look at why massage therapy can help you to recover from your injuries a lot faster.

One of the biggest problems with major sports related injuries is that the physical therapy prescribed by tyour doctor does not continue for long enough. It does help a great deal with regaining movement and flexibility, but the sessions are generally only prescribed for the period when the injury is at its most vulnerable and is most limiting. This is where massage comes in.

What massage does is improve the circulation to the area through relaxing the muscles in the area. Relaxed muscles allow blood to flow more freely as your muscle tissue is not constricting the blood flow. This means that more blood will pass through the injured area and it will be able to get more nutrients. What this means is that the cells in the area will be able to regenerate faster as the nutrients are more readily available for cell growth.

Relaxing the muscles has another benefit. Tight muscles are often painful and as such, massage therapy can help with pain management. As the muscles are relaxed your body will release endorphins which will help to ease the pain. Endorphins are the body’s natural pain killers and they are very effective.

There are a few things that you will have to do to help your massage therapist speed up your recovery though. The first thing that you will need to do is make sure that you disclose every detail about your injury. The more the massage therapist knows the better equipped they will be to help you recover from your injury. You will also have to commit to the program. It does not help you to only go for a massage session when the injured area hurts. Your body needs the help on a regular basis so that the healing can take place consistently and that much faster.

You should also make sure that you do a bit of research on the various massage therapists in your area. You need to make sure that they are able to deal with sports related injuries as this kind of injury can require more specific techniques than a regular massage therapist who just works on muscle tightness would be likely to know.

If you have managed to injure yourself playing your favorite sport then you really should make an appointment to see a massage therapist that specializes in sports injuries. The treatment will not only feel great but it will help the area that was injured heal a lot faster. So what are you waiting for?

Make your appointment today and speed up your recovery so that you can get back to playing your favorite sport.

TMJ is short for temporomandibular joint disorder or syndrome. It is used to describe either acute or chronic pain and inflammation in the jaw muscles and joints.

The condition could affect any part of the jaw, including the muscles, ligaments and your teeth. The symptoms of TMJ include things like discomfort when chewing, clicking jaw joints, ear and headaches, migraine, hearing loss, tinnitus, restriction in jaw movement, neck and shoulder pain and dizziness.

TMJ is often caused by stress that results in the affected person clenching their jaw during the night. This clenching produces tension in the facial muscles, particularly the jaw muscles and can also cause pain in the teeth as a result of the excess pressure.

Luckily for those affected by this disorder, there is hope for relief from the tension and pain. Massage therapy can really help a lot with relieving the pain.

A trained painPRO massage therapist will work on your neck area, around the occipital bone, cervical muscles, trapezius or shoulder muscles and the masticatory muscles both above and below the jaw joint area. The jaw itself will be manipulated to stretch and release tension in the muscles surrounding the jaw joint. The massage therapist should also ask you to try to close your jaw while they hold it open for a short period of time. This is to try and even out the tension on either side of the jaw.

Once the massage has been completed and the tension in the jaw has been released your painPRO massage therapist may move on to some trigger point therapy. Trigger point therapy is used to eliminate the knots in the muscles around the jaw area. It is important that every single trigger point is eliminated.

Massage therapy is a great tool for releasing the tension that TMJ causes. Once the therapy is completed the patient should feel immediate relief of at least some of the pain, tension and inhibition of movement in the jaw. A lot of the other symptoms that go along with TMJ will also start to disappear as the massage therapy takes effect.

You do not have to deal with the effects and side effects of TMJ. It is possible for you to get a lot of relief from the pain, discomfort and irritation that this disorder can cause.

Give us a call now (604-688-0029 ) to book your appointment … or book online.

We will collect ballot entries from the 16th of each month to the 15th of the following month. To put it in plain English the draw on the April 16th, 2012 will be from entry ballots collected between March 16th and April 15th, 2012. The lucky winner will be drawn each month on the 16th and advised by phone or e-mail. Of course we need to take your picture to show that a real human won the contest.

This contest will continue each month until we decide that we can’t afford to do it anymore or our printer runs out of ink for the ballot entries. But we think you’re worth it so don’t hold your breath about us changing our mind anytime soon.

This is just one way that painPRO Clinics show our appreciation for your business.

As with most sports, it is possible and even easy to get injured while rollerblading. Rollerblading accidents can result in visits to the emergency room and in long-term painful injuries.

The number of accidents and injuries can be decreased if you are sensible and take note of the following tips that are intended to help you prevent rollerblading injuries.

Avoiding muscle injuries

Rollerblading is a whole body sport. Even though it appears you are using only your legs, your core muscles and arm muscles are also being used. To prevent injuries to your muscles, stretch and warm up properly before you start.

If you are rollerblading on the street then make sure that you start out slow and easy and increase your speed slowly. This gives your muscles time to warm up and you are less likely to be stiff the next day as a result of your exertions. If you are going to be rollerblading on a track then do a few laps at a slow pace.

Wear safety equipment

It is important that you make sure that you wear all the protective clothing and equipment that applies to rollerblading. This includes knee and elbow guards, helmets and long sleeved shirts and trousers instead of shorts. This will help you to avoid injuring your joints when you fall, and will help avoid road rash or gravel burn if you slide.

You may still get a number of bruises from falling but you will keep your skin where it is supposed to be. The helmet will protect you from head injuries which is always a good idea.

Yeah … I know you feel like a geek, and no one else is wearing protective gear … but is permanently injuring your knees and elbows worth the fashion statement?

Learn to fall correctly

If you Rollerblade, falling is almost inevitable. Learn to fall safely in order to prevent injury to your hands, knees, elbows and head.

If you are half way into a fall, don’t try to stop it by putting your hands out … you’ll end up injuring your hands.

Fall in a rolling motion.Do not tense up, instead keep your body loose and relaxed. The rolling motion and a relaxed body will reduce the impact of your fall. Practice falling correctly in a padded gym or grassy area.

Avoid sunburn

Make sure that you wear a high UV protection sunscreen whenever you are outdoors, not just when you are rollerblading. The sun can cause a lot of harm to your skin and frequent sun damage has been implicated in a lot of skin cancer cases. Aside from these problems you should also note that sunburn can hurt a lot and you really do not want to have to suffer through that pain.

Avoid night accidents

If you are going to be rollerblading at night it is a good idea to wear reflective strips and light coloured clothing. If you are not visible it is very possible that you will get hit by a bike or vehicle. This can result in some very serious injuries that may leave you disabled for life. If you wear light clothing and reflective strips you can drastically decrease your chances of being injured because you are more visible and the vehicles will have time to slow down and pass you safely.

It is always important to make sure that you are as safe as possible no matter what sport you are taking part in. Rollerblading is no exception to that rule. There are definitely ways to make sure that you decrease your chances of getting injured though, so make sure you take every precaution to keep yourself safe.

Spring is in the air! The days are starting to get noticeably longer and warmer. It is time to bring out your running shoes and the dog’s Frisbee and start losing the extra pounds that winter hibernation has added!

It is not always easy to get out and exercise or have fun outdoors during the winter season. It is much more comfortable to sit in front of the fire or television wrapped in a blanket with a cup of hot soup than to go out jogging in the cold rain.

Then spring arrives and you overdo it. You make your first spring walk or run a bit too long and over extend yourself playing with the dog in the park. The dog loves it, but your poor muscles don’t!

When you stop working your muscles for extended periods of time they lose some of their elasticity and strength and this makes it a lot easier to injure yourself if you are not careful.

Although you may be raring to go and get back into your workout regime it is a good idea to start slowly. Make your first walks, runs and rollerblading excursions short and gentle. Make sure that you do not over extend your muscles and injure them. your body will thank you for it and you will be able to get back in the game a lot faster.

Of course, it is possible that you will be stiff and sore or will pull a muscle no matter how careful you think you are being. It is important to take care of these injuries before they become a chronic problem. It is an unfortunate fact that soft tissue damage can stay with you for the rest of your life if you do not take care of the problem and get the correct treatment as soon as the injury occurs.

One of the forms of treatment that you can make use of is therapeutic massage. What therapeutic massage does is stimulate the blood flow into the affected area as well as loosen the stiff muscles. The increased blood flow will carry nutrients to the injured area and help it to repair all the damage that was caused. Loosening the stiff muscles will give you immediate pain relief by releasing the tension and by releasing endorphins, the body’s natural pain killers.

If you are an active person and want to get back into the swing of things now that spring has arrived, treat yourself to a massage and loosen up your muscles before you start your new exercise program. Your body will thank you for it!
